What is Community Development?

The United Nations defines Community Development as “a process where community members come together to take collective action and generate solutions to common problems.“ It is a broad term given to the practices of civic leaders, activists, involved citizens and professionals to improve various aspects of communities, typically aiming to build stronger and more resilient local communities.

Volunteer skills = Job Skills

Emerald Community House has volunteering opportunities which build transferable skills in community development, administrative support, event management, childcare, community arts, promotion, market management, social media management, community development, hospitality, small business support, humanitarian work, community enterprise and grant writing – all in a supportive environment. Great for school leavers or those returning to the workplace.

ECH contributes to Resilient Melbourne Accelerated Design Forum

The City of Melbourne is hosting a project in partnership with metropolitan councils to develop a resilience strategy to equip Melbourne and metropolitan area to effectively deal with the chronic stresses and acute shocks that may occur.

Award winning novelist at ECH

Female – young – fighting for humanity through literature. That is Okky Madasari, one of Indonesia’s important novelists on the rise. At 28, she was born in Magetan, East Java in 1984, had already won the most prestigious literary award in the country, Khatulistiwa Literary Award, for her third novel: “Maryam”.

2014 Fire Awareness Awards big winner on the night was the Emerald Community House with Emerald CFA Brigade, taking home both the Community Preparedness Award and the esteemed $10,000 RACV Insurance Award for Excellence.
